Correction of vision problems with LASIK

Many of our middle-aged patients at OCULUS regret having missed out on the chance to do the LASIK eye surgery when they were younger.

For these patients, our experienced ophthalmologists have good news for them: it’s usually not too late to have surgery for myopia or astigmatism, hyperopia or presbyopia! Age does not prevent a patient from having LASIK surgery. If a patient is interested in LASIK, we advise them to ask their doctor if they are a good candidate for the procedure, whatever their age.
The only age limit for LASIK is that patients must be 18 years of age or older, which means it’s possible for a patient to be too young for refractive surgery.

Assessment of suitability for LASIK Laser Eye Surgery

All patients must be examined to establish their eligibility (or otherwise) for LASIK. LASIK is contraindicated for patients with unstable myopia, thin corneas or certain health problems.

At OCULUS Eye Clinics, many of our patients in their forties, fifties and sixties have undergone laser eye surgery. The procedure is safe and effective on patients of all ages. The only way for patients to know for sure whether LASIK is appropriate is to ask an ophthalmologist specializing in Laser Eye Surgery to examine their eyes and their health, and make an individual recommendation based on this assessment.

What if LASIK isn’t right for you?

Fortunately, patients who are not good candidates for LASIK can benefit from other refractive surgery techniques. Our patients, especially those with presbyopia, can benefit from lens surgery, which represents a safe and sustainable long-term solution for a life without glasses.
